PhD position РUme̴ University
We have announced a PhD position in Environmental Science with a focus on paleolimnology and permafrost studies. It would be nice if you can distribute the announcement to potential candidates (deadline for application 9th of June). You can find the full announcement at:

The objective of this PhD project is to develop new analytical techniques to reconstruct long-term changes in permafrost dynamics and the effects on lake-water quality in Sweden and Canada over the past 10 000 years. By using lake sediment as a historical archive the aim is to assess permafrost dynamics and its importance for carbon cycling, algae community composition, and the transportation of pollutants from terrestrial to aquatic environments on millennial time scales. The PhD student will use and further develop up-to-date paleolimnological approaches such as spectroscopical methods (VNIRS, FTIRS) as well as X-ray fluorescence (WD-XRF) and GC-MS pyrolysis. The position is based at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science in Umeå and at the Climate Impacts Research Centre (CIRC) situated in Abisko in northernmost Sweden. The paleolimnogical research at CIRC is a part of the Environmental Change Assessment group at Umeå University.
