GeoHydro2011/CANQUA joint meeting session

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract for the thematic session that we are organizing during the forthcoming GeoHydro2011, a joint meeting of the Canadian Quaternary Association (CANQUA) and the Canadian Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH-CNC), in collaboration with “Association d’hydrogéophysique du Québec » (AHQ). The conference will take place August 28th to 31st, 2011. In addition to a series of thematic and general sessions, short courses and fieldtrips are planned. We invite you to consult our website to obtain further information on the conference (www.geoHydro2011.ca).

As you may know, Québec City is a UNESCO world heritage site that celebrated its 400th anniversary just 2 years ago, making it North America’s oldest city. As we are expecting a large number of participants from across the country and abroad, this is a most interesting venue for our thematic session. Under the theme ‘Water and Earth: The junction of Quaternary Geoscience and Hydrogeology’, the organizing committee also wishes to promote exchanges between hydrogeologists and Quaternary scientists of all persuasions. This first joint meeting of the two groups seems long overdue.

Please consider participating in our thematic session in paleoclimatology: “Climate conditions of the last millennium revealed by natural archive systems”. The objective of the session is to cover recent investigations using natural archives for reconstructing variations in paleoclimates and paleoenvironments with high temporal resolution over the last millennia. The session will underline the diversity of the retrospective approaches used and the recent technological developments which have broadened the range of paleohydrological indicators and enriched our knowledge of this very contrasted period in terms of climatic conditions. Particular attention will be given to studies comparing reconstructions with independent series, either reconstructed or observed.

Note that upon acceptance of your abstract, a 4 to 8 page long text for the conference proceedings will have to be submitted by May 31st, 2011.

Official abstract deadline for both oral and poster presentations is January 12, 2011. However, we will accept abstracts submitted within the next few weeks (31st January 2011).

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information. More complete information on the meeting may be found at: www.geoHydro2011.ca

Thank you in advance. We are looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
